Wellcome is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate.

These challenges need the bold research our funding supports, but they won’t be solved by science alone.

We are looking for a Project Officer to manage standalone workstreams and individual work packages within Projects, monitor progress against plan and ensure compliance with project management processes.

Reporting to the Head of Climate Impacts and Adaptation in the Climate & Health team the Project Officer will support team members (including research/senior research managers) to plan and execute strategic Impacts and Adaptation projects.

In this role you will (see job description for more detail):

  • Use best practice project management tools and techniques to support delivery of projects

  • Monitor and report on progress, issues and outcomes across projects

  • Manage the governance and controls quality of project delivery

  • Analyse and trouble shoot project challenges; identifies opportunities for improvements

  • Build external and internal relationships required for project delivery

  • Source and manage external resource and suppliers


  • Be the owner of the risk and control environment for your area and be accountable for the quality of you and your team’s outputs.

  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Experience working in a project management environment and familiar with project management processes and practice

  • Experience in the use of project management tools and systems


  • Ability to form effective relationships in and outside the immediate team

  • Analytical skills with an eye for detail

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office
