Summary

The Weiss Lab at the Helen Diller Cancer Center at UCSF is seeking a talented and energetic individual to provide technical support for in vivo experiments in pre-clinical mouse models for cancer. This position is critical for the proper operation of the Weiss animal colonies. The selected candidate will be responsible for daily maintenance of laboratory animals, including basic husbandry

duties, health monitoring, animal tagging, specimen collection for genotyping, and colony management. Proper training in animal handling and biosafety will be provided as needed. The candidate will also have the opportunity to learn how to set up mice breeding, perform surgeries, and administer drug treatments.

Required

Qualifications

Graduation from high school, completion of training equivalent to the Laboratory Animal Technologist certification of the AALAS, and three years of related animal care

experience with demonstrated supervisory ability; or an equivalent combination of

education and

experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the

duties assigned to the position. 3 years of

experience with animal care and/or pre-clinical mouse models. Knowledge and/or proficiency in various rodent handling techniques and animal welfare. Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication

skills. Ability to work independently and execute day-to-day

responsibilities with minimal supervision. Demonstrated capability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary research team environment.

Laboratory Animal Technologist Certification Of The Aalas

Experience with mice surgical procedures and/or breeding small animals. Knowledge of mouse models of cancer, measuring tumors, and collecting tissue.
