Position

Summary

Performs The

duties of one of the skilled trades, such as carpentry, electrical, electronics, plumbing, HVAC, welding, painting, etc., to maintain all clinical and non-clinical facilities equipment and furnishings.

Duties may include repair work, Preventative maintenance routines, new maintenance projects, facility maintenance, etc.

Education/

Experience

Equivalent to graduation from high school and successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship in one of the trades and two (2) years of journey-level

experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of building operating systems and facilities. Two (2) additional years of

experience will be accepted in lieu of completion of an apprenticeship program.

Licensing/certification

Requirements

Positions in this class may require one of the following licenses: carpenter, or; electrician, or; HVAC, or; plumber License, or; welder. Valid Class C Nevada driver's license is required.

Codes, laws and regulations governing area of assignment; basic mathematical computations; systems in area of assignment and how systems interact and relate to one another; certain positions require knowledge of: electronic equipment, video surveillance systems, televisions and VCRs, public address systems and master antenna systems; Schematic diagrams; building schematics including electrical lines, alarms and electrical boxes; building structures, codes and standards such as American Disability Act

requirements and fire codes; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill In

Applying techniques used in one of the semi-skilled trade functions; reading and understanding technical manuals, blueprints and schematics; creating schematics for work completed; handling emergency situations; handling hazardous materials; using equipment and tools used in performing the skilled trade function assigned to; installing and servicing equipment; using equipment and hand tools such as amprobes, digital voltmeters, oscilloscopes, meters, circuit testers, hydrometers, screw drivers, wrenches, hammers, drills, saws and levels; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of

duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Requirements And Working Conditions

Mobility to work in a shop, mechanical room, or related maintenance environment, including the operation of typical trade equipment, hand and power tools and standard office equipment; and to drive a motor vehicle to various work sites; stamina to stand, walk and climb and to work in confined or awkward spaces for extended periods of time; stamina to work under adverse environmental conditions for extended periods of time; vision to read printed materials and VDT screens; hearing and speech to communicate effectively over the telephone, radio and in-person. Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.
