Role Overview & Specifications
The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all tax related decisions and activities in the organization. You will help us stay tax-compliant and up-to-date on new tax laws.
Responsibilities
Tax Expertise: Ensure the candidate has a strong grasp of tax laws and regulations, particularly those relevant to individual and corporate taxes. They should be familiar with filing deadlines, deductions, credits, and any recent tax code changes.
Accounting Knowledge: While the primary focus is on tax preparation, basic accounting
skills are also essential. This includes understanding financial statements, bookkeeping principles, and the ability to reconcile accounts.
Experience with Various Entities: Since your client mix includes a mix of companies, trusts, and individuals, the ideal candidate should have
experience in preparing returns for each of these entity types. Familiarity with different tax
requirements for each entity is crucial.
Real Estate Taxation: Given that real estate
experience is a bonus, look for candidates who have knowledge of real estate tax laws and regulations. This could include understanding depreciation, capital gains, 1031 exchanges, and other relevant topics.
Attention to Detail: Tax preparation requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and compliance. Look for candidates who are thorough in their work and can spot potential errors or inconsistencies.Time Management
Skills: With deadlines for tax filings on March 15th and April 15th, it's crucial to find someone who can manage their time effectively and meet these deadlines without sacrificing quality.Communication
Skills: The ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and possibly tax authorities is essential. Look for candidates who can explain complex tax concepts in a clear and concise manner.
Software Proficiency: Familiarity with tax preparation software such as ProSeries or Lacerte is highly desirable. Candidates should be comfortable using these tools to streamline the preparation process.
