Salary: Inner London Unqualified range (£24,254 – £35,081) or main pay range (£34,502 - £44,756)

Negotiable depending on experience

Working Pattern: Part Time, 0.4 FTE (2 days per week)

Responsible to: Senior Leadership Team

Purpose of job:To teach art to all designated classes

To maintain and develop the quality of art and design within the school and its community

Main Responsibilities

To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated Art curriculum for pupils
To monitor and support the overall progress and development of pupils in art
To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides pupils with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential in the subject area
To contribute to raising standards of pupil attainment in the subject area

Teaching

To undertake a designated programme of teaching high quality lessons across Key Stage 1 & 2
To plan and deliver schemes of work and lessons that meet the requirements of the Key Stage 1 & 2 curriculum
To be a role model for students, inspiring them to be actively interested in Art
To complete the relevant documentation to assist in the assessment of pupils
To set expectations for pupils in relation to standards of achievement and the quality of learning & teaching
To contribute to school wide art initiatives and projects, helping to see these through to fruition
To prioritise and manage time effectively, ensuring continued professional development in line with the role
To follow the school’s policies and procedures
To ensure the effective deployment of classroom support
To maintain discipline in accordance with the school procedures and to encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour and standards of work
To update professional knowledge and expertise as appropriate to keep up to date with developments in teaching practice and methodology, in general, and in the curriculum area of Art
To ensure a high quality learning environment within the Art room and via displays across the school
To continue raising the profile of Art across the school and capitalising on opportunities to add to the cultural capital of our students through participating in external competitions or opportunities

Assessment, Feedback and Tracking

To lead, monitor and evaluate the assessment and feedback to pupils in line with whole school policy
To follow school monitoring and tracking systems relating to pupils attainment, progress and achievement
Mark and give written/verbal and diagnostic feedback as required

Staff Development

To continue your professional development in the relevant areas including subject knowledge and teaching methods
To engage actively in the Performance Management process
Participate in whole school CPD programmes

Safeguarding

Be keenly aware of the responsibility for safeguarding children and to help in the application of the Safeguarding and Safe Practices policy within the school
Comply with the schools Safeguarding Policy in order to ensure the welfare of children and young persons

Communications, Marketing and Liaison

Personal Responsibilities

To play a full part in the life of the school community, to support its distinctive mission and ethos and to encourage staff and students to follow this example
To actively promote school policies and procedures
To be responsible for own continued professional development
To comply with the school’s health & safety policy and undertake risk assessments as appropriate
To be courteous to pupils, colleagues and visitors and to provide a welcoming environment
To undertake duties before the school day, at break, at the end of lunch period and after the school day on a rota basis
To attend meetings scheduled in the school calendar punctually
To set cover work during any leave of absence
To adhere to the school’s safeguarding policy

Person Specification / Selection Criteria

Evidence of a background in either art teaching or as a practitioner in art and design.
Qualified teacher status or evidence of teaching experience or work with children as an unqualified teacher.
A clear understanding of the school’s ethos, and the ability to support this in their practice.
The ability to write and communicate with a range of audiences in clear, articulate English.
The ability to plan lessons cohesively, with clear, age appropriate learning objectives.
An ability to demonstrate positive behaviour management strategies with children of all ages in the school.
Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication skills in a variety of contexts, such as with other staff and parents.
An understanding of the needs of pupils with English as a second language and special educational needs or disabilities.
The ability to listen and learn. The desire to become an outstanding practitioner.
Willingness to participate in and contribute to the life and work of the wider school community.
Willingness to be flexible and adaptable and the ability to work under pressure.
The ability to handle difficult situations in a calm and professional manner.
