Work Arrangement
Hybrid- This position requires you to be onsite a minimum of three days per week.
The Role
Plan and execute collaborative scientific or engineering research, generating new knowledge and innovative technology for application in manufacturing systems and processes, specifically related to advanced manufacturing and assembly including weld quality and nondestructive evaluation methods and processes.
What You’ll Do:
Collaborate with internal/external global technical teams (who are focused on developing laser welding processes and battery joint configurations) and execute technical assignments independently. Generate innovative ideas, suggest new project areas and establish/execute detailed technical plans focused on quality systems which can evaluate and/or predict in-line laser weld quality. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry and technical developments affecting areas of responsibility. Communicate results internally and externally through timely, high-quality presentations, reports and publications. Develop corporate contacts and represent GM effectively to the external technical community.

Required
Qualifications)
Thorough understanding and in-depth knowledge of scientific principles and state-of-the-art research related to:
Manufacturing Process Development
experience. Nondestructive evaluation equipment, methods, and processes used for inspection, process monitoring, control, and diagnostics.
Experience working with state-of-the-art analytical tools and experimental techniques; ability to develop new methodologies as warranted by research needs. Advanced training in theoretical manufacturing sciences/engineering; process & equipment controls; statistical methods; experimental design; decision analysis & control.
Experience with quantitative physical state and performance characterization of materials, processes, and as-built products. Relevant
experience for a wide variety of material systems. Demonstrated and documented results in oral communication, patents, and peer-reviewed journal publications. 3 years relevant work
experience. PhD from top-tier research institution in science/engineering disciplines (required; electrical/mechanical/chemical/systems engineering; applied math/physics). Exceptional candidates with master’s degree(s) and extensive (7-10 years) industrial research/development
experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred
Qualifications)
Expertise or 1-2 years of
experience in laser welding technologies, familiarity with welding quality evaluation, laser welding process signals affecting weld quality, and ability to analyze and interpret NDE data to assess the quality and integrity of battery weld joints. Excellent interpersonal
skills and communication methods to work effectively with GM internal and external customers, including executive management. Strong project management
skills, especially for projects with high technical risk. Demonstrated technical knowledge and expertise with a high level of analytical ability and creativity. Adaptability to working with multiple projects and in different technical areas. No external certifications or licenses required, however, these will be considered.
