About The Role

Our Advisory group has an exciting opportunity for an Energy Market Analyst, in its Power System Advisory (PSA) Department. DNV Energys PSA team provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Energy Market Analyst must demonstrate vision and drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth and evolution of the PSA business in North America. The ideal candidate will be aware of market opportunities where we can differentiate and innovate, and they will manage commercial projects, delivering technical insight and provide customers with excellent customer service.

Wholesale market analysis involving energy markets across the US (congestion & curtailment, basis, DA/RT, forward heat rates and spark spreads, ancillary services, natural gas, and correlations) assist with development of market valuation modelsTranslate wholesale market changes into strategic opportunitiesGenerate reports and market insight for clientsEvaluate the value and impact of various energy assets such as storage, wind, solar and distributed generationActively attend (in person/remote) industry stakeholder meetings and stay up to date with assigned market changes in terms of developments and policy changesContribute to the teams research and innovation activities supporting development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to enhance efficiency and/or capability improvementsAdhere to departments project quality and timeliness proceduresAssist in preparing responses to Statement of

Qualifications (SOQs), Request for Proposals (RFPs) for new tenders/bids/opportunities

This position will ideally be based out of our Dallas (TX), Katy (TX), Austin (TX), Medford (MA) or Portland (OR) office.

Minimum

Requirements

Bachelors degree in finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or in a related field of studyMinimum two (2) years of direct work

experience in energy production cost modeling or economic dispatch modeling using PLEXOS, PROMOD, UPLAN or EncompassKnowledge of North American RTO/ISO markets and their planning practicesFamiliarization with regional power and gas market construct for managing risk, including familiarity with

Locational Marginal Prices (LMP), basis and congestion risk, renewable curtailment etc.Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical

skillsAbility to work in a high-paced team environmentExcellent written and verbal English communication

skillsWe conduct pre-employment drug and background screening

What Is Preferred

Graduate level degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Power SystemsIn-depth financial or economic knowledge/

experience and understanding of the mechanics of the energy market (wholesale energy markets), ability to quantify trends impacting the industry and provide information that can aid commercial decisionsKnowledge of Eastern and/or Western grid interconnection and corresponding planning practices including resource integration studiesDemonstrable hands-on

experience with power system analysis software packages including TARA, PSS/E and/or PowerworldWorking knowledge of automation scripts such as Python for development of automation modules
