About The Thrive Scholar Summer Academy Web Program

The program is designed to give students exposure to and competency in web development tools, concepts, and

skills in order to set them up for success in pursuing CS courses at college and future technical career opportunities. Targeting rising college freshman, the program will offer an introductory web development course as part of Thrive’s overall Summer Academy 2 programming in summer 2024.

Time Commitment - Part Time Lead Instructor will need to be available during the following dates: June 10th - August 9th, 2024

Pre-Program: June 10th - June 29th, 2024

Instructor Onboarding & Training: June 10th - June 24th, 2024 up to 50 hours total. This includes weekly virtual synchronous training sessions and asynchronous program preparation On

Thrive Scholars will NOT observe the July 4th holiday 12.5 hours / week of in-class instruction, Two possible class times - morning hours or afternoon hours of 2.5 hrs/day M-F 2 hr/wk structured academic time - hands on working sessions and just-in-time reinforcement sessions based on student needs Up to 12 hr/wk lesson planning, meetings, grading, and feedback

Our Instructors are passionate educators and technologists who are deeply invested in providing opportunities for students identifying with underrepresented groups in tech. Instructors are responsible for the overall in-class

experience of participants in the Thrive Scholar Summer Academy program.

The Lead Instructor Will Be Responsible For Delivering A World Class Student

experience for the duration of the 5 week program teaching CodePath’s web development 101 course. In this course, students learn frontend web fundamentals in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The students will work to bring a website to life with animations as they progress through the program. This website will be centered around a cause they care deeply about, with the project threaded throughout the course. Students apply their learnings to the project, adding new features to their website in each unit. This course is a beginner-friendly introductory course that requires no prior knowledge. The lead instructor will deliver lessons, facilitate collaborative structured academic time, and support students in designing and executing their own original projects. In addition they will support with data collection and communication across all stakeholders to maximize program success and learnings.

Responsibilities

Lead technical lessons 5 times per week to teach students the fundamentals of web development using HTML, CSS, and Javascript Facilitate 2 hs/wk of structured hands on working sessions and just-in-time reinforcement sessions based on student needs Serve as the primary instructional point of contact for students in the program Adapt and create instructional materials from the course curriculum provided, and provide meaningful feedback to our curriculum team as the course progresses Develop strong relationships with program participants to support their growth and development throughout the program

Requirements

2+ years of instructional

experience with a demonstrated track record of

educational excellence Strong understanding of core technologies: HTML, CSS, Javascript

Nice To Have

experience in Angular, React.js, Node.js, and foundational database knowledge. Our ideal candidate has strong familiarity with relational databases (e.g. Postgres, MySQL, etc.) Computer science (or related field) degree, or comparable

experience working in/learning software development

Experience working through shifting priorities and learning, while maintaining organization and control Formal

experience working as a web developer in core technologies a plus

Experience developing technical curriculum (and interest in playing a role in the development process of the SITE curriculum) a plus Tech nonprofit, startup

experience a plus

Compensation

This is a seasonal, part-time (up to 30 hour/week) position.

Candidates will be paid a competitive hourly rate for up to 9 weeks of part time training and program instruction. Our hourly band is $75 -$125 an hour, and the average

compensation for full program participation is $24,000 for the summer program.

Candidate Hourly Rate Is Dependent On

experience and new staff rarely start at the top of the range.
