Personnel
Implement the Ten Fundamentals of Supervision (SUP214).Ensure working environment is conducive to worker comfort and safety.Set and monitor time goals for all tasks to be documented on task cards.Monitor work performance of staff and undertake assessments as required.Enhance and encourage skill development of staff thru OJT.Monitor timekeeping and verify hours.Encourage effective communications and flexibility within the team and gain an understanding of their needs and problems.Provide motivation, maintain a high level of morale and minimize confrontation.Ensure on-the-job training and instruction is provided for trainees and apprentices.Provide feedback to Foreman on performance and recruitment
requirements.
Materials
Plan Material
requirements in conjunction with Foreman.Generate requisitions for Foreman’s approval.Ensure the economic use of materials and consumables to meet targets of quality and material waste elimination.Ensure scrap material and trash are sorted and discarded in appropriate bin or container.
Equipment
Control and maintain records of company equipment and machinery under his control.Ensure regular maintenance of company equipment and machinery is undertaken in conjunction with the relevant Department.Ensure shadow boards are stocked and kept in an orderly fashion.
Safety
Ensure a safe working environment is maintained.Attend to injuries of staff and follow up with the necessary paperwork.
Housekeeping
Ensure a housekeeping procedure is in place and maintained.
Quality Control
Inspect work and ensure quality is maintained during all phases of work.Inspect and sign off all completed work.Implement and maintain quality standards and procedures.Ensure company policies and procedures are understood and adhered to.Identify and record problems and initiate or recommend corrective action by means of the Improvement Reporting System.
Production
Plan future work in conjunction with Foreman.Provide input for production schedules and provide weekly updates.Actively plan and implement production improvements.Ensure every effort is made to reach agreed milestone dates and budgets.Provide input to design and look for continued improvement in both production efficiency and budget conformance.
Qualifications / Knowledge /
Experience
Three To Five Years
experience in marine constructionAble to perform all tasks assigned to tradesmenMust have working knowledge of marine joiner/carpentry, insulation, HVAC and paint.Physical
Requirements
Standing: 25% Sitting: 15% Walking about: 60%
Lift and Carry: 50lbs. for 10% of the day
Hazards: Climbing ladders, accessing confined spaces
Working Conditions: General shipbuilding environment, loud, dusty, hot/cold
Miscellaneous: Proficient in oral, written, and blueprint instructions and interpretationsFamiliar with using a computer (especially Outlook , Excel and Word) is a plus.
TOOLS: Familiar with use and function of power and hand tools.
DIRECTION EXERCISED: Shall direct the work of all tradesmen and assistants on own crew, as well as the work of some other crews as intermittent tasks are being completed.
DISCRETION EXERCISED: Implementation of schedule and adherence to budgets.
LIASES WITH: All other trades, Engineering, Warehouse, Receiving, Surveyors, Human Resources staff.
